Should preface by saying it rained the whole stay so it was a bit of a let down with no chance of seeing Mt Fuji and the gondola not running. The bus to reach the Hotel was more convenient than expected, but make sure to have the driver tell you when to get off. The front desk was straight forward and not very friendly. The room was spacious with a partial view of the mountains and the roof. We arrived later in the day and there are nicer rooms with full length windows and views. Dinner was plentiful and average with more Japanese than Western choices. The dining room was just serviceable with cafeteria tables and lighting (they should make more of an effort here). The onsen was pleasant (altho a bit of mold on the ceiling) and obviously would be nicer with Mt Fuji view.

The hotel is beautifully situated on Lake Ashi, right beside Hakone Shrine and the Tori gate out in the lake. The hotel runs a shuttle bus from the nearby transpot hub on the banks of the lake, where buses to and from Odawara as well as the sightseeing cruise ships can be boarded. The hotel was also extremely clean and well presented. Our room was spacious and comfortable.

We had the rooms with a balcony and bathroom. The room had a heated carpet which was so nice for us after walking in stormy weather for 10 hours. I enjoyed relaxing in the room the most.

It’s pretty close to the main train station. The (restaurant) staff was pleasant. We enjoyed the onsite onsen. The town shut down early, so it was convenient having the Box Burger right there.
Pro-tip - Five minutes away is a cute shrine “Hien Waterfall” that should be visited.

Á jewel in Japan so many attraction to see and do.
Á jewel in Japan so many attraction to see and do. I would recommend booking a room with your own Hot Tub or an Onsen that is attached to your hotel great to soak after a days sightseeing. The Hakone Free Pass is also a must allowing your to use almost all public transport, Pirate Cruise ships and cable cars to get you around the Hakone region and see all it has to offer. It's hard to believe this wonderful spot is only just over an hour on the Shinkansen from Tokyo.

Hakone was just to stop we needed after 5 days in Tokyo.
Hakone was just to stop we needed after 5 days in Tokyo. It was a just so peaceful and a welcomed change of pace. The town itself is small but can be busy during the day. But there are plenty of places to discover. Get the Tozan train and head over to Ashi lake. Take in the majestic Mount Fuji (if it's not cloudy) and just take it all in.

The onsen was great - sauna and hot pools, plus relaxation areas and massage chairs. The spa treatment included a much needed (human) massage, which was also great.
Overall, the hotel is a bit confusing - a mix of three different buildings and names, each with its own reception. It's looking its age a bit and could do with a spruce up but the room was large (for Japan) and comfortable.
The restaurant was OK, but not the best food we had in Japan.

The highlights of Hakone for me were the old Tokaido Road, the shrine at Motohakone, the Edo era checking station and the Onshi Hakone Park. There are so many other attractions in Hakone which I didn’t have the chance to see. The 3 day Hakone pass is a must.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit.
It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring.
Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND renting a car to explore the surrounding area. What a delight to discover new little towns and see Fuji at different times throughout the week. LOVED the skyline drive and Melody Lane.
It was an amazing stay at Yuyado Zen, two nights were perfect as we get to spend time exploring Hakone and also fully enjoy the onsen stay. It is near to Ubako Station where you can ride the ropeway to attractions like Owakudani and Lake Ashi. Hotel staffs were very helpful with directions and offer free pickup/drop off to bus station. The food and hospitality were just amazing, probably the best meals we had in Japan! The room was very well maintained, clean and spacious as well. Highly recommend!
Excellent, authentic room that was very clean and spacious, good view of the mountains. Shared bathroom were clean, and the private onsen was amazing. The host, Tammy, was very responsive at all times and extremely friendly and accommodating. She is trilingual in English, Chinese, and Japanese. I would stay here again for future trips to Hakone.
The location is extremely close to the Kamigora cable car station, which directly connects to the Gora Station from Hakone Yumoto station.
Unbeatable price for Hakone. This is an annex to the Suimei hotel across the street, so you get to use their onsens without paying the high price of accommodation. Very nice onsen, especially on very cold February days. Good location just a few minutes from the train station and bus depot, as well as a 7-11 and Lawson and lots and lots of places to eat. A good-sized mini-frig. A top sheet on the bed as well as a comforter. Very effective heater in a small room.
Very nice ryokan in Hakone Yumoto, great location - bus stop for Hakone Yumoto station and, more importantly, Lake Ashi is on its door step. Very nice breakfast and Kaiseki dinner served in private rooms. Room is traditional Japanese but overall hotel has many style influences from Bali - as advertised in the name of the establishment. This made us want to both redo the experience of a traditional Japanese ryokan and travel to Bali! Staff are very helpful.
Fujiya is a very beautiful hotel. The room is spacious, old-style furniture but very very comfortable and clean. Everything we need was there. The spa with free onsen and free hot/ cold drinks are wonderful. The surrounding gardens are beautiful. Breakfasts both Western and Japanese styles are great (go to the breakfast room early so that you can choose a table with a beautiful view). The staffs are friendly and very helpful, too.
The views from the rooms were sensational and the grounds provided a lovely place to relax - the welcome drink on arrival in the afternoon was a lovely touch. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the rooms comfortable and spacious, and we enjoyed the on-site onsen. There are lots of local activities - we really enjoyed the ships across Lake Ashi and also a day at the Hakone Open Air Museum.
Staying at Hakone Onsen Sanso Nakamura was a authentic japanese experience. After a day full of sightseeing a bath in the Onsen was very relaxing. We also enjoyed the typical japanese breakfast which changed every day. The hotel manager met our wishes for breakfast without meat. The location of the hotel was in a quiet neighbourhood and bus stop was within walking distance.
Loved the private onsen on the balcony of our room, and enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner options. It was nice to have the free shuttle from Odawara station rather than taking public transit, but the ropeway was very close to the hotel. The ferry was also very close to the hotel so it was easy to get around with the Hakone Freepass.
Love the location near Hakone Yumoto train station, cute part of the town with no hills! Only three rooms so no wait for onsen and no extra charges! My son ended up using it twice! Futon bed was comfortable. Peaceful sleep with sound of mountain water. Love the traditional Japanese style and simple decor!
I enjoyed my stay at Hotel de Yama. The location was a huge plus for me, as I was interested in visiting the Hakone Shrine and Torii gate before it got too crowded. The service was great, the staff were lovely and friendly, and I loved the view of the garden and lake from my room and the hotel's public onsen.
This is the third stay at Hakone, each hotel has different experiences. I love how this place has a personal house keeper. It was a wonderful surprise.
All dinner and breakfast are excellent. Hotels private onsen was great. Traditional room is a great experience accompanied with lovely meals.
the best stay in Hakone, you have a public onsen with open and indoor onsen, and the best communal areas are exceptional! the location is very strategic in the Myashita area and Gotemba, the access is within walking distance to the train station, and in the front of the hotel is the bus stop
Really nice ryokan hotel, staff was super helpfull and nice to us, they gave us a room on a highest floor:) private onsen experience really worth it and food was just delicious! hotel is super close to the bus stop, with close direction to Lake Ashi and ropeway. We recommend definately :)
Hakone village is a great stop for travellers interested in Mt Fuji region. Hotel is in a pleasant neighbourhood with wonderful surprises nearby. There are places to eat and explore within the proximity of the hotel. this was our first Onsen experience in Japan and it was great.
The hotel is located close to the Hakone Yumoto station. This means it is easy to reach and you can explore the rest of the Hakone area via train.
The public bath/onsen in the hotel is great.
I tried the Chinese restaurant in the hotel and the food was great.
I love everything about the hotel. It’s located in a beautiful area and it has an amazing very well maintained garden that gives a spectacular view!
The private onsen was amazing, especially after a long day around Hakone. Will definitely stay again.
Stunning views of Lake Ashi from our room. Convenient location to sightseeing cruise boat. Easy access to buses connecting to other areas of Hakone, including the Hakone-Yumoto train station. The bed was comfortable and the bathtub was spacious.
Great hotel meeting most expectations at that level, great room and comfort, great location by the lake, nice outdoor onsen, delicious food. Staff showed a lot of hospitality the Japanese way.
This ryokan is conveniently located just 6min easy walk from the Hakone-Yumoto Station. The onsen was fabulous, the tatami experience was amazing, the room was well-sized and comfortable.
